The Good Soldier's Wife

There is a song in the air of God and Country

Of star spangled flags flown high up above

The medal he wears is one that he shares

The Good Soldier's Wife in all of her love

They say the breath of a poem is breathed from a book

The pages I read of her are one prose with a look

She breathes one simple verse in complex sweet rhyme

The sonnet of her sings for me all of the time

She is my sugar and spice she is my naughty and nice

In the dreams that I sleep in dreams that I keep

I can not think once I can not think twice

She is my earth angel in siren song deep

The mothering hearth home schooled burning bright

Fires from her heart and fierce in her love

It sweeps through the soul like a thief in the night

The Good Soldier's Wife is all I think of
