Most of us have gone brain numb to what ISIS is, like al Qaeda, so the outlayer groups do not make a great deal of sense as now the game is to not call all terrorists, terrorists, but to have fashionable names for each group.
There is something which emerged when Mad Dog Mattis took over Defense on his first day, and it was a series of almost 50 strikes in Syria and Iraq. What is interesting in these operations is first they reveal that President Vladimir Putin has knocked the hell out of Obama's ISIS, in there are only command and control, car bomb factories and "light" positions left.
In this a term came up that Mad Dog specifically went after, and it is something which has been kept completely out of the MSM, and that term is LEVANT.
Strikes in Syria
Attack, bomber, fighter, and remotely piloted aircraft conducted 25 strikes consisting of 39 engagements in Syria:
-- Near Bab, two strikes engaged an ISIL tactical unit, destroyed an artillery piece and damaged a tactical vehicle.-- Near Raqqa, 22 strikes engaged 12 ISIL tactical units; destroyed nine fighting positions, two tunnels, two tanks an improvised-bomb factory and an ISIL headquarters; and suppressed three ISIL tactical units.-- Near Dayr Az Zawr, a strike destroyed two oil well heads.
Strikes in Iraq
Attack, bomber, fighter and remotely piloted aircraft conducted six strikes consisting of 16 engagements in Iraq, coordinated with and in support of the Iraqi government:
-- Near Rutbah, a strike engaged an ISIL tactical unit and destroyed a tactical vehicle, two weapons caches and a mortar.-- Near Beiji, a strike engaged an ISIL tactical unit and destroyed a vehicle.-- Near Kisik, a strike engaged an ISIL tactical unit and destroyed a vehicle and an ISIL-held building.-- Near Mosul, two strikes engaged two ISIL tactical units; destroyed a vehicle-borne-bomb factory, a vehicle-borne bomb, a tank, three fighting positions and a vehicle; and suppressed an ISIL tactical unit.-- Near Tal Afar, a strike engaged an ISIL tactical unit and destroyed a semi-truck and a command-and-control node.
The specific terms were ISIS and LEVANT. Levant is interesting in it was up until Obama's regime started training, arming and importing terrorists into Syria was an absolutely NON TERROR area. The Levant district had Christians and Muslims living together, and rejecting bin Laden's al Qaeda infidel ideology and terrorism. Yet the Levant in terrorists there were specifically targeted by Mad Dog.
.In the Levant, Islamic politics, like all politics, are local and are rarely connected to the global Salafi-jihadi movement.
Al-Qa`ida’s Ideology: Few Followers in the Levant
Al-Qa`ida’s ideology does not have a strong popular following or support base in most of the Levant. This is in part because of the region’s long history of communal (Christian-Muslim and Sunni-Shi`a) co-existence and rejection of takfiriyya (labeling a Muslim an infidel), which is a basic tenet of al-Qa`ida’s ideology.[16]
In Syria, while society has lately become more Islamic—as evidenced by the increased number of veiled women, skyrocketing mosque-construction, a thriving religious literature market, significant growth in Islamic charity organizations and rising attendance at informal home Qur’an classes—increasing religiosity in the country has not translated into a rise in takfiri ideology or Islamic militancy.

It is remarkable that the Levant, a sub-region plagued by internal and external crisis conditions that are generally conducive to terrorism and political violence, has been free from any insurgent [1] Islamist group with verifiable material ties to al-Qa`ida’s central leadership.[2] The two ambitious attempts by Arab Salafi-jihadis to create insurgent forces in the Levant occurred in Lebanon in May-September 2007 when Fatah al-Islam[3] violently emerged in the northern part of the country, and on August 15, 2009 in Gaza when Jund Ansar Allah[4] declared war on Hamas. These two attempts sought to radically change the existing socio-political orders in Lebanon and Gaza through the use of religiously-inspired insurgent violence. Both attempts failed, however. Although al-Qa`ida has been tied to terrorist plots in the Levant, it does not appear responsible or interested in the few Islamist insurgent movements that have arisen in the region.

At least three (unrelated) groups claim the name Jund al-Sham. The group in Afghanistan is a terrorist group believed to have first appeared in 1999. It was established by Syrians, Palestinians and Lebanese with links to Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, who went on to found al Qaeda in Iraq and was subsequently killed by a US airstrike. The second group (Soldiers of the Levant) is an anti-Fatah Sunni Muslim group formed in the Palestinian refugee camp of Ain al-Hilweh in 2004 and is considered a splinter group of Osbat al-Nour. It has claimed responsibility for the car bomb assassination of Hezbollah official Ghaleb Awwali, claiming the assassination was part of a plan to eradicate Shiite heresy. Later however a man claiming to be the group's leader denied any involvement. A third group, also calling itself Jund al Sham, is a new Salafi jihadist group in Syria that announced its formation in the Syrian city of Homs in 2012. The group is supportive…
