Not a single person of color was nominated for an acting award at the BAFTAs this year, and only one actor of color received a nomination at the Oscars: Cynthia Erivo, for her performance in Harriet. She was also nominated at the Golden Globes, where, encouragingly, Awkwafina won a Best Performance award (comedy or musical) for her turn in The Farewell. But all of the Globes' nominations for Best Performance by an Actor in a drama went to white men.
“I don’t think anybody wants a handout or preferential treatment, although that’s what we give ourselves every year," Phoenix said on Sunday. "I think people just want to be acknowledged, appreciated, and respected for their work. This is not a self-righteous condemnation because I’m ashamed to say that I’m part of the problem. I have not done everything in my power to ensure that the sets I work on are inclusive, but I think it’s more than just having sets that are multicultural."
The problem which Mr. Phoenix addresses is not as he sees or experiences it on the Hollywood sets. The problem is not multiculturalism or nominating or awarding people of color, which Mr. Phoenix is, as his color of White is a colour.
I would that Mr. Phoenix could understand that every human is programmed, as all life is, to seek the light. By instinct we are moved toward the light, in warmth and light. Darkness is cold and hidden, it brings our fears. A cloudy day is like a bleached out fish or a moldy bread, in it signals danger that in off white colors are something to be avoided.
This is what White Privilege propaganda is false about. It is like telling people to stick their hand in the fire and like it, no matter the consequences. There is a reason that the English as a people, have produced a number of theatrical successes which guide humanity. Like the Greeks before them, they tell a good story. The Germans are most intriguing in their nuances, and when Hollywood in their Jewish control were producing the American Dream in their vintage, the world purchased the tickets.
In the late 1960's a Hollywood CIA product in Mockingbird began turning out misery and reality. For the record, no one wants to pay money except sadists to watch suffering and failure. They go to movies to forget their failures and sufferings. It is why John Wayne and Jimmy Stewart's films did so well, and why Tom Hanks a liberal did well as Forest Gump, because people want to believe that something good can happen them in life, even if they are idiots, which most people are.
For that, I would that Joaquin Phoenix could comprehend something, and that is White People are interesting to others, by instinct and by the gift of God's Grace in the 500 years the world has had under European colonialism and American exceptionalism. It was Martin Luther Germanic Protestantism which provided the opportunity of rights, protecting of families and therefore building nations with work ethics, which provides a platform for Mr. Phoenix. The very things Mr. Phoenix is espousing are not leftist or Godless, he is speaking Christian Gospel and American Constutionalism as someone who is a leftist.
Hollywood has tried Affirmative Action, but it does not work. The Black actors who can act, are passed over for those which can not, and those Blacks are placed into suffering storylines which normal people do not want to ever experience.
In that, Joaquin Phoenix is not a person of privilege. He is a person God created with a persona which calls attention to it. He works hard at his craft and that work is rewarded as audiences watch him. I would that Mr. Phoenix would not be burdened by this cross as it is not him, which he is thinking in this success it is him. Until Hollywood and Joaquin Phoenix stops seeing people in colors, and people arise by talent like James Earl Jones, where audiences stop seeing him as Black, but as a person they connect with, none of this will change, because what Joaquin Phoenix is speaking to is the psychosis of Obama Guilt.
What this is, is a groups of liberals who are racists to the core, making jokes about others, and that includes White Christians who are portrayed non stop heinously in Hollywood. These liberals are rich, and begin feeling guilty over their position and begin, unlike Joaquin Phoenix, to ridicule others and charge them with being racists, and demand they change, but the change they seek is laziness. Why go through the motion of hiring casting directors to screen thousands of people of color to obtain the few with talent, when it is easier to just hire that pretty one who makes me feel Hollywood superior, has sex with me, or is a liberal like me. Hollywood's problem begins in lazy casting, and then liberals who think they can hire plug and play coloreds to make them out to be something people want to watch.
Personally, I do not want to watch fat Oprah Winfrey being miserable, no more than any other wincing thing before my eyes. Race had nothing to do with this as race was not mentioned. It is what is unpleasant and making people watch unpleasant things or make them think that Black leads the way when that is not the historical case, is a fiction people reject, no matter how feel good it is supposed to make them feel.
I just watched Aeon Flux, starring Charlie Theron and it was horrid. She is not Japanese as Anime is. This odd last city on earth, looked Dane, but all it had were anemic whites and these Aunt Jemima blacks saving the whites. That was stupid casting, and the director was a woman who was clueless. There was zero story and all special effects. That White Privilege won nothing, because it sucked, just as most color cast films suck. It is content and audience connection.
While I applaud Joaquin Phoenix, his speech should have been saved for the Oscars as he probably destroyed his voting chance, even though his speech was perfect in performance, but he is missing the reality of human psyche. People prefer success to failure.
If Mr. Phoenix wants Hollywood to produce inclusive cinema, then have Blacks take up guns, take back Africa, build a superpower, and then the world will want to be like Blacks. For the record, Mr. Phoenix should be demanding why White People are being driven from Africa in their lives by liberal Blacks, as there are no Blacks in Africa or America in their centers of power, espousing what Mr. Phoenix is. You do not see the Chinese complaining that there are not enough Jew bankers named Gary Cohen, not enough landowners named Donald Trump and not enough movies starring Joaquin Phoenix displacing Chinese actors.
Until Joaquin Phoenix and the liberals have counterparts throughout the world advocating where Whites are in the minority, then the diluting of the American pool is destroying America and has destroyed Hollywood with perverts and non talent, which often is in the face of Ben Affleck.
Mr. Phoenix has been afforded power, but he is wasting his power as George W. Bush did in welfare reform, as the people did not want it. Not one person he is speaking to is willing to give up their fame, fortune or molesting others, so some Black like Eddie Murphy can molest a new White Girl every night, or perhaps Mr. Phoenix would like to give his Golden Globe for OJ Simpson's new career sidetracked by cutting off White People and Jew People's heads.
See prejudice and bigotry are for a purpose, just as martial success is appealing to those who learn to respect the race which enforced it. Jesus produced a rule of life, which most rejected. There are things and people that even Joaquin Phoenix will not give his place to others. There is always threshold no one will cross.
Absolute power corrupts absolutely, and perceived power always produces a warped perception.
Being Jesus is complicated. Joaquin Phoenix should make it uncomplicated and just be himself as that is complicated enough and where his responsibility ends.
