Enough information has leaked that we know this is a Naval operation, backed by massive Air Force strikes, with a final landing on the coasts of China. Of course, it is a ruse and yet an operational fact.
The order of battle is not that far off the coast of China, just north of Taiwan. The Chicom have been annexing rock in the Taiwan Sea from Vietnam to the North, and in this case the North is the rich oil and fishing waters of the Senkaku Islands of Japan.

The order of battle in this is a triangle of control of rocks in the Pacific, in Senkaku by Japan, Tiaoyutai of Taiwan and Diaoyu of the Chicoms. The fact is Japan has held these islands under survey since the 19th century, until the United States seized them after World War II, and then returned them in the 1970's. China has zero rights to this area, and that is what makes this a perfect storm.
Unless you are someone like Captain Kirk. your looking at the map above is just colors, but in tactics and strategy this is a perfection of warfare for the United States, Japan, Taiwan, and the worst possible situation for China.
Most minds would see that China is strong as this is close to them and far away from Japan and the United States, what you are missing though is the blue water ocean, the deep blue sea. China's operational zone is shallow water and a confined slot, the other parties have the deep ocean to operate from and to hide in.
This area of 2/3rds of the Chinese coast to the Pacific and turns south to the major shipping lanes by Vietnam, which again are absolute choke points working against Chinese maritime supply and trade.
Senkaku moves China away from Taiwan, focuses China not on Japan, and keeps China from using it's land forces in Korea or Vietnam. There is not a thing there worth fighting over, being pinned down over, so this is strategically the area to make China vulnerable in, as this is thee American hunting ground in World War II, and China will die there.

General from a Chinese warship announced that United States ground forces will move next to occupy these islands.
China has now been shoved into the position of putting their own troops there which would be an international act of piracy, which would invite global response or China will have United States Soldiers sitting within spitting distance of the Chicom shore and in Taiwan's pond, which makes China invading Taiwan an entirely different situation as China moves, China is attacking US Forces for an immediate United States response.

The Japanese are well aware of what the Lt. General stated from their warship decks. They have heard that they can be as aggressive as they choose as the United States will back Japan completely, and the next step is United States Soldiers on these islands, covered my massive firepower.
From Korea south to Vietnam, this entire slot, can be sown with modern sea mines which would hunt ships, drones which would hunt ships, and it would all be non nuclear tactical. China could be crippled in days in it's sea trade and forced to place all of it's Navy into port.
It is impossible to invade Taiwan when the entire sea lane is sown with mines thick enough to walk across on.

The tactics and strategy of this is perfect. It was what trillions of dollars paid for in every conceivable context and when everything was assessed, this is where the order of battle was chosen by the United States.
It had seemed ridiculous that China could be goaded off land, into a sea war, and yet that is where this order of battle is taking place. The United States moving into Senkaku is the remedy to save Vietnam, Korea, Japan and Taiwan. It is near impossible for China to invade Alaska with this poised dagger ready to rip up the dragon's gut.
The entire published United States strategy is to pull the claws and fangs out of the dragon and then kill it. China should be fighting a land war with it's numbers which would eat American firepower, including nuclear firepower, but China is being forced to move to sea power, be exposed there and once exposed, defeated on land.

Imperial Japan was not stupid enough to be bogged down on these rocks and yet Peking in the prissy boy tactics of their military, instead of just taking land masses by treaty, sought rocks to leverage away from legitimate nations, which has left Peking vulnerable. Borneo, Iwo Jima, Philippines a nation fights like hell over. but Senekaku is not big enough to fight over in modern combat.
It is difficult for many to trust the United States military as it is so often is trying to start or continue a war by looking incompetent, as it does continuously, but in these islands, this is what Americans do when they legitimately are involved to win a major war. In those inner recesses, the American military machine is gearing to do to China what it did to Iraq twice. It wants to unleash it's true firepower to prove military theory, to rewrite the historical context of war. The operational doctrine though of the United States military has not changed since Grant was in the Peninsula, Miles was in Montana, Patton was in Germany, as General Colin Powell so bluntly put it,' We are going to cut it off and kill it".
This is going to be a love affair if Armageddon does not take place first.
